Obituary

 | Funeral services for W.G. Laney, 86, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Erwin, pastor of Stamford First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Hale Center Cemetery by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home. Mr. Laney died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005, at his residence. He was born Dec. 20, 1918, in Hale Center, the son of Amy Eubanks and J. Earl Laney. He served with the Merchant Marines during World War II, stationed at Catalina Islands, and also served at Pearl Harbor. He farmed in the area and served on various co-op boards in Hale Center. He was a 32nd-degree Mason in the Lemond Masonic Lodge #832 and had served as past president of the International Texas Flying Farmers. He married Frances Wilson on June 26, 1940, in Clovis, N.M. She died June 17, 2000. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Pete and Nelda Laney and Mark and Brenda Laney, all of Hale Center; seven grandchildren, KaLynn Laney of Austin, Jamey and husband Ronald Phillips of Lubbock and J Pete and wife Melonie Laney of Austin; Kim and husband Banon Ellison of Carrollton, Ryan Laney of Venice, Calif., Tyler and wife Kara Laney of Frisco, Whitney Laney of Plano; and five great-grandchildren, Austin, Grant and Gavin Phillips and Christian Laney and Madison Laney. The family suggests memorials to Hale Center Citizens Center, P.O. Box 205, Hale Center, TX 79041, to Area Community Hospice Foundation, 302 S. Garland St., Plainview, TX 79072, or to a favorite charity. |
